Driftin on the Roc

“Driftin on the Roc” is a beautiful buckskin filly out of “Driftin In Hollywood” [See Broodmare Page] by the outstanding sire in “Phantom of the Roc” [See Stallion Page].  This filly is bred to do anything that requires speed and cowsense.  She has an outstanding nature, the looks to match and is lovely and quiet.

Once again, we could say that “Driftin In Hollywood” is perhaps our best mare, and she would have to go in the small group of the ‘best horses we have owned’ along with “Hollywood Lion Queen”.  In some respects she is better than “Lion Queen” because “Driftin” is, like her sire, truely versatile.  She has placed in Campdrafts [placed 3rd in her first maiden], won Barrel Races and Ropings, both Heeling and Breakaway, and won and placed at Halter and Western Pleasure/Riding and won numerous Rodeo Queen Competitions.  Most of which we would do several of those events all on the one weekend.  So she certainly has earned her Stripes!

Several competitors have described “Phantom of the Roc” as a “True Athlete” on the Rodeo Circuit.  Having won the 2004 Mt Isa Barrel Race and All Round Champion Cowgirl title, the 2004 APRA All-round Cowgirl and wins in Breakaway, Roping and Steer Undecorating one can see why he has be described as an “athlete”.  He won all this with his owner Suzie Fearon aboard.  He started his competition in the Campdraft arena.  Missing out on the final of the Warwick Gold Cup by 1 point is no mean feat for any horse, however he was just a four year old at the time.  He never missed a beat and went on to win numerous Novice and Open Campdrafts.  Once in Suzie’s hands, she turned him to the Rodeo arena when at Boulia Easter Rodeo and Campdraft she entered the Barrel Race just to ‘make up numbers’ and came second to Wendy Christie’s great horse “Major”, and the rest is history.

It is a fairly certain thing that by her breeding, this filly will be very good at what her chosen field is, however, it is also safe to say that she will excel in numerous events – whatever she is put to. Barrel Racing and Roping, I think is a ‘given’, however she should Draft, Rein, Challenge and is certainly pretty enough and has the conformation to show.  Her temperament shows us that she will take it all in her stride, as her first outing was to the ATRA National Finals in Capella – noise, trucks, other horses, different water, suroundings and food, an indoor building – the little girl handled it like a pro.  “Driftin on the Roc” is an outstanding filly, in both type and temperament, and will be a definite Futurity prospect in almost any field.
